Lake Thunderbird Dam

Yesterday evening we decided we were sick of laying around the house with our stomach bug so we decided to go for a walk across the Lake Thunderbird Dam. We were feeling ok thanks to medicine and I figured we wouldn't get close enough to infect anyone else.

 

I didn't even get to the car before I saw a little toad hopping across the drive way.

 




I really liked this grass but I wasn't sure how to capture it.




This ant mound was huge. About the size of a kiddie pool. I was scared to get too close.




This guy looks strangely happy.




I really need to invest in a macro lens.

 

Unfortunately we didn't even make it all the way across the dam. We were pausing too frequently to take pictures & to hunt for Killdeer nests (I would have really liked a picture of one) & before we knew it the sun was sinking behind the clouds & our stomachs were starting to hurt again.

 

I was amazed it took us 2 hours to walk only half the dam but it was nice to get lost in the moment as it happens so rarely anymore. I'll have to take my phone less places from now on.
